May 11, 2023- My Sweet Charity- Jeanne Prejean Plans have just been announced for the 7th Annual Gateway To Opportunity Luncheon. For two it’s a return to help The Family Gateway’s mission to support families experiencing homelessness in Dallas and Collin countries.

It was back in 2017 that Paula Miltenberger co-chaired the luncheon at the Omni Dallas Hotel with former first lady Laura Bush as the featured speaker. Now fast forward six years — Paula and the luncheon will be returning to the Omni on Thursday, October 12. But this time around she and her husband Bay Miltenberger will be serving as honorary co-chairs.

And Laura will once again be onstage, but she’ll be joined by her daughter Barbara Pierce Bush.

According to Family Gateway President/CEO Ellen Magnis, “We know that Mrs. Bush and Barbara understand the importance of breaking the cycle of poverty, and their work as advocates for healthy families and communities has a positive impact worldwide.”

New to the event will be community leader and all-around good guy Peter Brodsky, who will be doing double duty.

In addition to moderating the conversation with the Bush ladies, Peter will be presented the Annette G. Strauss Community Service Award “for his work in helping transform our community through a variety of high-impact projects including our homeless response system.”

Ellen attributed Peter’s being honored by saying, “We are grateful for Peter’s dedication and work towards providing safety, economic security and opportunity for all people in the Dallas community.”

Funds raised from the luncheon will support the Family Gateway program that includes “operating the only emergency shelters in our community that serve all types of families and keep them together.”
