DALLAS, TX, October 10, 2016 – Family Gateway, a nonprofit organization providing support to homeless families in the Dallas area, has announced a new partnership with Matthews Southwest to develop much needed affordable housing.
Given the uptick in housing prices, affordable residence is scarce in North Texas. When families are ready to move out of shelter services and into stable housing, organizations assisting in that process are often discouraged by availability. As a way to introduce more housing opportunities into the community, Family Gateway will be the non-profit partner of Matthews Southwest on a new housing complex with 336 units near the International Inland Port of Dallas in Hutchins, Texas.
“Dallas has a very real crisis on its hands due to the shortage of affordable housing. Family Gateway is thrilled to partner with Matthews Southwest on this important project,” said Anne Johnson, Chairman of the Board of Family Gateway.
This will be the largest 4% Low Income Housing Tax Credit project underway in Texas and the first of its kind approved that did not require a property tax exemption or third party soft loans, such as city grants or bridge financing.
“We are very pleased to work with Family Gateway to help eliminate family homelessness,” said Jack Matthews, President of Matthews Southwest. “Our partnership generates new revenue for Family Gateway programs and the infrastructure creates a financial asset for the organization.”
A groundbreaking event will take place October 12, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the construction site of the new project (700 North J.J. Lemmon, Hutchins, TX 75141) with remarks by Family Gateway Board Chair Anne M. Johnson, Matthews Southwest President Jack Matthews, Mario Vasquez, Mayor of Hutchins, and State Representative Helen Giddings.
State Representative Helen Giddings added, “I am pleased to see Family Gateway and Matthews Southwest partnering to provide critical affordable housing options for those in our community looking for lasting homes. We must all work together to ensure no homeless Dallasite is denied the opportunity of a better future.”
