Dallas creates a task force to combat homelessness. Dallas City Mayor Eric Johnson is keeping a promise made during last year’s State of the City to address homelessness.
Johnson, Thursday, announced the creation of the Homeless Organizations, Policies, and Encampments (H.O.P.E.) task force, which will consist of an independent group of private citizens. The 10-member committee will have three co-chairs, namely Peter Brodsky of Housing Forward, Betty Culbreath of the Dallas Housing Authority, and Ellen Magnis of Family Gateway.
The city has been plagued with complaints from residents regarding homeless encampments, trash, waste, and other issues for years. The task force will spend the next three and a half months contemplating solutions. The H.O.P.E. task force will conclude its work by June 15, 2023, and then submit a report with recommendations to the Mayor’s Office.
Johnson also called on other government entities to join the effort, such as Dallas County, neighboring cities, non-profits and medical institutions.
